Abstract
Gamification is a field that is substantially gaining traction in today's world. Today there are hundreds of Gamification Case Studies with ROI stats in the double or triple digits. However, there still are many misconceptions and misunderstanding on gamification, especially when it comes to actually implementing good gamification design into your own projects. As a Gamification Pioneer, Author, and International Keynote Speaker (Stanford, Google, Tesla, LEGO, SxSW, TEDx. etc.), Yu-Kai Chou explains the reason why so many gamification campaigns fail and introduces the Octalysis Framework to use as a tool to implement Gamification design for any process. Octalysis is based on the premise that just having “game elements” does not necessarily make something fun, which is why most games are not successful. Instead of focusing on game elements like PBLs (Points, Badges, and Leaderboards), Octalysis breaks down motivation into 8 Core Drives that propel every behavior we do and optimizes for short-term fun as well as long-term engagement.
