Abstract
In this talk I will start by giving a short introduction on auction theory and mechanism design as a mean for complex resource allocation problems. Next, I will describe the ad exchange market that is based on double auction mechanism, and will describe a VCG based auction version as a solution for the ad exchange market.
Finally, I will motivate a new research direction that explores the possibility of an a priori balance in the traffic load by utilizing the imminent technology of autonomic driving systems where internet communication and artificial-based decision making systems are built in components in those cars.
In particular, we propose to develop a road allocation system based on the auction mechanism design theory for the self-driving system that will act as a decentralized multi-agent system where each autonomous car is assumed to be a self-interested entity. In contrast to current behavior of human drivers who use web-applications to determine their driving routes (e.g., WAZE) in order to avoid traffic jams, we envision, that in the near future we will have the ability and technology to prevent traffic jams using an auction based mechanism within the self-driving system.
Biography
Prof. David is an associate professor of the Department of Computer Science at Ashkelon Academic College. Prof. David's research interests include AI techniques, Automated Auctions, Machine Learning applications for Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS), Outlier Detection algorithm fusion, Electronic Commerce, Decentralized Agent-based Systems, Recommendation and Broadcasting Systems. Prof. David received her Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics at Bar-Ilan University in 2003. For her master's degree and Ph.D. Prof. David studied topics in the field of Artificial Intelligence. During 2003-2006 she was a senior research fellow in the Intelligence, Agents, and Multimedia (IAM) Laboratory at Southampton University, UK, under the supervision of Professor Nicholas Jennings.
Prof. David is now an active researcher who has published over 50 publications including publications in selected manuscripts (i.e., AIJ , MAGS, and DSS) and international conferences in the field. Prof. David was a co-PI (with Dr. Leshem) in the Artificial Intelligence and Learning algorithms project of the Israeli-Taiwanese scientific research cooperation 2013-2015, and the Information security project of Israeli-Taiwanese scientific research cooperation 2015-2017 founded by the Israeli Ministry of Science. Prof. David is the organizer of three annual conferences of the Israeli Association of Artificial Intelligence held at Ashkelon College in 2008-2010. Prof. David serves as a co-chair of the international workshop on Agents Mediated Electronic Commerce (AMEC) (co-located in the International Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agents Systems (AAMAS) in 2009-2017.
